Knock on Wood

I had the flu, or something like it for a week... I don't think the kids got it...

Thank God Almighty! I don't know how they didn't get it.. but praise God for small favors.

Thank You Lord.

Stearman Fly-in and Playing Catch-up

I'm a little behind....

Every September, the airport in our little city host the annual Stearman Fly-in. They sit on the field at the airport lined up inrows. And they take to the skies daily, the skies around us are home to these planes for that week. They buzz around, alone in pairs or in formations of four, or five. Despite the trees around our place, we see quite a few of them, and we can always hear them coming. This year I took quite a number of photos of them, I felt very much like a cross between a stalker and a mad woman, I would drive the scenic route home and as soon as I heard the buzzing of one of their engines I'd pull off the road to shoot off a few pictures. I'll admit I missed lots of pictures when I could not get off the road safely. And I did control the urge to try to shoot and drive...

The boys get all excited for Stearman days now that we live south of the airport, because so many of the planes fly over us.

Both last year and this year both the Peoria Air National Guard has brought their C-130 Hercules up to the Fly-in. The boys have been up in the cockpit to look around , they think it is pretty cool.
This year they got to sit in the seat of a Stearman.

They were a little jealous of my Birthday present. My first plane ride ever. The pilot, Cody, asked if I wanted to go any specific direction, and so we flew past the house.
I can see how having a plane and a camera could get addictive and expensive, very quickly. I wonder if I could get free rides if I hung around the airport with my camera and a plate of brownies?

Do you remember the game telephone?

Where you sit in a circle and whisper a phrase to the person next to you and after the information has traveled the circle, you see how much it has changed? Real life isn't much different.

For more than a week now we have had some unexpected guests at our house, Kenny and Dee. Its a long involved and strange story. Suffice it to say the game of telephone and misinformation has played a part. It isn't really a problem to have two extra people around. Although I'm having a darn hard time realizing how much more food two more people can go through. I'm working on fostering my generous spirit, because sometimes I can still be quite grinchy of heart. Usually, it is without good reason. What's one wet towel in the laundry? No big deal. And so what if we have used 4 loaves of bread? It is just bread, and currently, we have it to share.

Kenny has been looking for things to do outside around the place, The day they showed up he found an patched two holes in my fence for me. The next day he finished the chicken pen for my Ameracauna chickens. Over the weekend, he helped Scott rebuild a section of fence. And He has been mowing and weed whacking around the yard in the places that need it. Kenny is one of those people that needs something to do, if he is up he takes the dog out, and feeds the cats and lets teh chickens out. all those things I have to do. Dee is no problem either, offers to do dishes laundry, whatever.

I think my inner grinch has given up. I think it has realized it cant win this fight, because I have realized in a very real way that there is no other choice. We could not, not take in Kenny and Dee, we could not say well sorry, no car, no home, too bad. We just could not do that.

Currently, Scott and a couple of his leased drivers are working on getting a contract to haul wind turbine parts. The blades and the towers. It's a 6 month contract that could pay quite a but of money. We could get out of debt completely if we get this contract. And have $ to start a 401k and college savings for the kids. Please shoot up a prayer for us. This contract would employ Scott, Robert, Kenneth, Kenny and Dee, for 6 months, and pay for a heavy haul truck needed for the job. Plus it would open the door to getting the next contract. Please keep it in your prayers.

Please and Thank You.

The Hurrier I go the Behinder I get.

Isn't that just the way life is? I have a post about the the first week of school sitting in my drafts, but I have not gotten to look close at the pictures from the first day so I can treat you all to a post with pictures. I may actually get to it today, but I'm thinking no one should hold their breathe. The stearman planes keep buzzing around as they go to and from the airport, and I'd like to sit on the road out side and just shoot pictures of them...

Maybe by weeks end I'll have some exciting photos of the planes!

Do You think I could get them to model it?

If I win one?

Go to http://yayapapayatutus.blogspot.com/ and register to win a free tutu.

If I win, I'll be looking for little girls to use as photo guinea pigs. Those are just too cute.
